Card Welcome Offers earn rewards for a low annual fee The Business Platinum(r) Card from American Express earns 120,000 Membership Rewards(r) points after spending $15,000 on eligible purchases on your card in the first 3 months of Card Membership. Earn 5X Membership Rewards(r) points on flights booked directly with airlines or through American Express Travel, up to $500,000 worth of those purchases in one calendar year, and 5X Membership Rewards(r) points on pre-paid hotels booked through American Express Travel.
American Express Membership Rewards points may be used toward travel booked through American Express travel portal, transferred to any of Amexs airline and hotel partners, or redeemed for gift cards, statement credits, online purchases, and charitable donations. You can redeem points for cash, gift cards, travel, orpay with points for online purchases. You can also redeem points for statement credits toward a particular expense - basically, cash back used toward paying off the card. You can redeem your Amex points toward travel, merchandise, gift cards, cash back, and more.
You can also redeem points for gift cards and for online purchases, but you typically receive less than one cent per point when doing so -- while for travel, you often get one cent per point, as long as you redeem through Amex Travel. Most cards give members at least one point per $1 spent, then sometimes bonus points for specific spending categories. When that same cardholder pairs an Amex Platinum Card with an Everyday Preferred Card--earning three times more points at U.S. supermarkets (up to $6,000 worth of purchases a year, so one-time) and two times more points at U.S. gas stations--and an American Express Blue Business(r) Plus credit card, earning two times as many points for each purchase (up to $50,000 per year, so one-time points), the overall rewards rate for that cardholder is more than twice as good. The added benefits of dining and bonus points make the Amex Gold Card a great choice for those looking to rack up rewards with more options, although enrolling in certain benefits requires signing up.
All other purchases earn only 1 point per dollar, however, so it might be best to pair this card with another one that offers a higher base rewards rate (like 1.5% or 2%). You will earn 3 points per dollar on purchases made at U.S. supermarkets and restaurants, and for purchases of gas and transit in the United States, without limits. Convert points into airline miles, and you could receive a 2 cents-plus in value for award redemptions with a high-end airline.
